“When you throw dirt, you lose ground” ~ Texan Proverb
This month’s meeting was attended by Trisha Grover (Acting Town Supervisor), Mike Scott, Shawn Dunmire, Dick Kozlowski, Michelle Dunbar, Curt & Sue Rung, Paul Sadler, Theresa Baldwin, Barb Hetzel, Mark & Gayle Dorrett, Jon Reitz, Larry Bedow, John Dunbar, Andy Fisher (George & Swede) and myself.
I have to say Bravo to Trisha Grover! This was the most organized meeting that I have been to in 3 years. I would also like to thank the town board for handing out a copy of the abstract to all who attended. It was a nice change to know where the money is being spent.
Andy Fisher of George & Swede presented the board with a quote for a new 3 1/2 yard wheeled-loader (Hyundai). The board is looking into leasing the machine at $14 an hour. The town runs the current loader an average of 600 hours a year. This would be a cost of $8,400.00 for the year. This machine will have a full warranty. This would actually end up being a savings to the town when you figure the costs of a new machine along with the repair costs once the warranty runs out. This will be considered as the board works on the 2010 budget.
Mr. Rung reported the following:
- Sand/Salt hauling bids were opened
Jim Scott- $5.47
Maybee Enterprises- $5.22
West Side Sales- $3.95
- Repairs to Truck 3 & 4 were completed- new torsion bar installed
- All trucks and trailers are inspected
- Ditching was done on Hydetown Road
- Attended a FEMA meeting in Belmont
- Worked on getting bids for new loader
Mr. Rung requested a resolution transferring $3,000 from DA5142.1 to DA5130.4. This transfer will cover the repair costs for the ‘85 Autocar that was just purchased.
Mr. Sadler reported 6 building permits for a total of $411.90. He has two dogs in his kennel. Mr. Sadler also met with the representative from Ag & Markets for his inspection and everything passed.
The board requested Jane check into getting the phones through Time Warner and to see if that would save on the phone bills.
The Code Enforcement Law was passed with the following change: Page 3- Section 4- Paragraph A- Size of a shed changed to 144 square feet or 12′ x 12′.
Ms. Grover read a letter from Assembly Minority Leader Brian M Kolb asking people to please check out www.reformny.org and sign his petition supporting the Constitution Convention.
The bills paid this month were- General Account: $2,866.46 Highway Account: $13,894.74
The Fireman’s Budget Hearing is set for Tuesday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m.
The Town’s Budget Hearing is set for the following Tuesday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m.
Next board meeting is November 9 at 7:00 p.m.~ Hope to see you there!

Election time is nearly hear, I would like to see who the Wirt Watchdogs support and who is running for each position. Hopefully those who disagree can do so with respect for there neighbors. It is interesting that I see a sign that says vote for experience! All thought the candidate has many years of experience in building and maintaining roads does he have the experience in budgeting, working as a supervisor, scheduling work assignments or working with the town board on budget and contract issues? I would say both candidates bring good qualities to the elected position it is our job to pick the candidate who brings the experience to do the best job as highway superintendent. For those of you who have jumped on the Obama band wagon calling for change remember change can be positive or negative rather than calling for change for the sake of change choose a candidate and convince us that they will make positive changes.
Good Luck to all the candidates in the election and there terms if elected.
Dan
Dan,
Nice to read something positive. Thanx
The Wirt Watchdogs respectfully both endorse & also support one of our own, Lea Dorrett, for the position of Town Supervisor. We feel that Lea Ray’s:
• Premise of putting the taxpayer & the public first,
• experience on a daily basis at the Allegany County government level in the Public Works Dept.,
• knowledge of New York State laws,
• proper protocol for conducting public meetings,
• a willingness to address the extremely high tax rate in Wirt,
• ability to apply for badly needed grant monies in the Town of Wirt,
all bode well not only for her, but for all of you & all of us as well. Going forward, please consider this opportunity to change the way things are currently done. All she needs is your support and she will get the job done – correctly. Regardless of your choice(s) please be certain to exercise your right to vote next month.
The Wirt Watchdogs
Good luck to Curt, Laura & Lea.
Thanks Shirley for your support. We all need people to get out and vote !!
The Watchdogs also support & endorse Justice Manners to be re-elected. She is also one of our own with her very no-nonsense attitude. She continually utilizes a very sound, common sense approach toward things and has done a hell of a job. Impressive, to say the least. Once again though, regardless of your political choice(s), please be sure to vote. Good luck to all.
The Watchdogs also support Gayle Dorrett for the position of town clerk/collector in the Town of Wirt. Gayle is highly qualified to serve the community in this position. Again, regardless of your choice(s), please be sure to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, November 3rd.
On October 9, 2009 a posting was done on this site by a person using the name Eliza. I verified the tax rolls and there is no one in the Town of Wirt or Richburg with the name Eliza. This person stated they find it offensive that I proclaim to be the savior of their community and taxpayers. I have asked this person to identyfy themself and they have not. I would think it would be more offensive to the community and taxpayer that a person would pretend to be representing the town and taxpayer and use false information to slander anyone including myself. I have posted accurate and truthful information that can be verified. Eliza is receiving false information from someone or is fabricating information to make it appear as though I am not a creditable person. I would suspect that this person is not doing this on their own. Anyone else involved has no more credibility than Elisa. I would further suspect that the person doing these postings does not like this website but continues to read it and post on it using a name so they cannot be identified. I also do not know why Eliza would think you needed a savior of your community. Your elections should demonstrated what the voters want, being good or bad. I hope your election turns out to be the best for the Town of Wirt and its citizens.
Some people feel brave hiding behind a keyboard Bob.
Don’t forget to vote today folks. Go Lea Ray!
Merry Christmas and happy New year to all.
