June 8 Meeting
Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language. ~Henry James
In attendance at this months meeting were: Supervisor Dick Howard, Trisha Grover, Mike Scott, Shawn Dunmire, Dick Kozlowski, Sue Rung, Paul Sadler, Theresa Baldwin, Jean Howard, Alice & John Dunbar, Michelle Dunbar, Legislator Bill Dibble, Larry Bedow, Jon Reitz and myself.
This months meeting went fairly quickly. Jon Reitz inquired to when the town board will begin the 2010 budget process. Mr. Howard stated that it will begin in September.
The following reports were approved:
Town Clerk
Building Code Enforcer- 2 building permits issued
Highway Superintendent (No Report)
Justice (Had report but never was talked about)
Alice Dunbar, Assessor gave the board a “6-Year Plan of Re inspection” to review and that needs to be signed by the board. This was tabled until next months meeting for the members to have time to read it.
There will be a public hearing on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:00 p.m. on the windmill project.
Mike Scott stated we are back to square one on the property from the Mosher’s for the septic system. It costs approximately $100/month to have the tank pumped at the Town Hall.
The board approved Jane to have a student from the “Summer Youth Program” work in her office this summer. This student will spend 5 hours (a month, week, I don’t know) with Jane. This is at no cost to the Town and is paid for through the County’s Employment & Training.
Next meeting is Monday, July 13. Hope to see you there. Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July!!

“Funny,” Mr. Barkley? No, our situation is NOT “funny.”
When I pay my taxes to the Town, I have a right to expect a reasonable level of services. The substandard road conditions are not reasonable, nor are these conditions funny.
Living on a dirt road should not mean that we must accept the second-rate service we’ve received; as taxpayers should we not ALL demand a certain level of professionalism?
The Town has an obligation to maintain the roads in a safe condition for everyone that uses the roads; however, many of the roads in the township, as currently maintained, are a hazard to the PUBLIC’s safety.
“Funny”. It’s strange that you’d use that word. Will it be funny if emergency response vehicles are needed on a town road and can’t reach the emergency? Will it be funny if the Town is hit with a lawsuit and we’re all paying for it on our way to the poorhouse?
In closing, I would tell you, that I’d choose to live next to ANY hard-working farmer that knows the meaning of a “hard day’s work” before choosing to live next to someone that doesn’t do their job but somehow feels entitled to collect a paycheck. Maybe you need to ask yourself – how funny is that?
A great entry, I am glad that at least one other person has the fortitude to say what is on their mind, if more folks would speak up the whole nation wouldn’t be on the brink of failure. But again, it was collective apathy that drew America into WWII, however, only after millions of innocents were murdered.
I noticed more dirt and pebbles in the Zimmer and Dimmick potholes again, ah but then the rain…. back to square root….NONE!…is it inability or plain irresponsibility that runs amock in some circles.
With the elections coming up this fall in the Town of Wirt it will give the residents an opportunity to make some changes on the current board if they desire as there appears to be several new faces that are willing to run for office. This is a small town and the election campaign should be professional and friendly as we all candidates have to face each other after the election is over.
The Watchdogs are concerned also and would like to see several changes in the current administration in the town of Wirt. With the unpredictable downspiraling economy we continue to face, it is clear that a change in the leadership here is necessary. So “more-of-the-same” just doesn’t make any sense for us at this time. All of us can impact that. We have the right to vote. Regardless of your personal preferences, the most important issue is for the taxpayers and citizens of Wirt to be certain to get out and exercise that right this year.
