Property Sales

Here is a posting of the sale of properties in the Town of Wirt so the taxpayers may compare their assessments with actual sales. If a taxpayer has property that compares to property that has sold then the assessment should compare within reason.

March 1, 2009 is the deadline for submitting application (RP-458-b) to the assessor’s office for the new Cold War Veterans Exemption. This exemption is for veterans who served in the active militay, naval or air service of the United States for a period of 365 days or more between September 2, 1945 and December 26, 1991. The exemmption is for up to $4,000 or up to $20,000 if you come under the cold war disability rating laws for the Town of Wirt, The Village of Richburg and Allegany County.
This exemption is for veterans that have not come under the previous veteran’s exemption laws. Any veterans that were in the service between any of the above dates for 365 days and received an honorable discharge should be able to receive an exemption. A surviving spouse is also entitled to these exemption.

Thanks for the reminder Bob. This is also the deadline for filing for Enhanced Star Exemption also. March 1 is on a Sunday this year but everyone should make sure they have their applications in at least a week early. Also, please make sure that you have your paperwork filled out completely and have it signed. Alice is known to deny residents their exemptions for not signing their forms even though it never goes any further than her desk and it is something the state wants everyone to have.

The Fire Company will be hosting a Buttermilk Pancake Breakfast on February 22, 2009 from 8 am to noon. A couple of our annual fund raising events did not do well last year it was very hard to get donations for the Chinese auction for retailers in Wellsville and Olean and many of our supporters told us the stake bake tickets were to much with the poor economy. It has been a few years since we had a breakfast fund raiser so we are trying them in Feb, Mar, and Apr. We picked the last weekend of the month as not to interfere with the rod and gun club’s breakfasts. We will be making Homemade Buttermilk pancakes plus eggs, sausage, toast, coffee and juice. If you don’t get filled up on the first plate we will gladly give you seconds on the Cakes. This will be a sit down meal. Not a fan of Real Buttermilk pancakes from scratch let us know what you want next month we are thinking French toast. The precedes will be going in the general fund of the fire company we had to purchase a service contract on the deliberators after one of them had the printer break. There were several advantages to getting the service contract over just paying for the repair so we went with it for the year. Thank you for your support Dan.

I would like to thank everyone who came to the breakfast. We made 65 dollars. The turn out was a little low we didn’t realize one of the churchs in Bolivar was also having a pancake breakfast. Those who came would like Sausage gravy and biscuits with home fries for next months breakfast. Anybody with a good homemade home fry recipe email me at Barkledj@gmail.com The Fire Company would also like to thank Lea for posting our event on the site.
